Toecap Protection
SB Impact and compression resistant 200 joule toe cap. Any product that is classified as SB only has a protective toecap. SB styles should only be specified in areas where there is no risk of damage to under foot. It is commonly sold in retail outlets. EN ISO 20345:2011
S1 Antistatic construction and energy absorbent heel. Impact and compression resistant 200 joule toe cap. EN ISO 20345:2011
S2 Water Resistant Upper. Antistatic construction and energy absorbent heel. Impact and compression resistant 200 joule toe cap. EN ISO 20345:2011
S3 Penetration Resistant Midsol to 1100 Newtons. Water Resistant Upper. Antistatic construction and energy absorbent heel. Impact and compression resistant 200 joule toe cap. S3 styles are the most commonly specified standard for industry. They usually have additional features that are classified separately. EN ISO 20345:2011
S4 Waterproof Polymer Upper. Antistatic construction and energy absorbent heel. Impact and compression resistant 200 joule toe cap. EN ISO 20345:2011
S5 Penetration Resistant Midsole to 1100 Newtons. Waterproof Polymer Upper. Antistatic construction and energy absorbent heel. Impact and compression resistant 200 joule toe cap. Any product that is a polymer or rubber moulded construction making them water and leak proof. i.e. Wellingtons. S5 styles are used in areas where there is a constant presence of water or liquids. EN ISO 20345:2011
SP1 Any product that is anti-static and made with a protective toecap and midsole only. S1P styles should only be specified for indoor environments where they will not be exposed to rainwater or outdoor elements.S1P styles should only be specified for indoor environments where they will not be exposed to rainwater or outdoor elements. Slip Resistance
SRA Any product which has been tested on a ceramic tile wetted with dilute soap solution. Footwear that been rated as SRA should be worn in environments where there is a low chance of slip. EN ISO 20345:2011
SRB Any product that has been tested on smooth steel with glycerol. If a product passes the SRA test, it can be tested to SRB rating, once it has achieved both, it becomes SRC. EN ISO 20345:2011
SRC Any product that has been tested under both the above conditions. SRC rated footwear will give the best chance of preventing a slip, trip or fall. However, it is important to, where possible design out the risk. EN ISO 20345:2011
Chainsaw Protection
Below Classification 16 metres per second (36 mph) (3150 feet per minute) Used in harsh abrasion environments and are commonly found where extensive landscaping work, both with and without chainsaws is undertaken. EN 381-3
Class 1 20 metres per second (45 mph) (3937 feet per minute) Used in harsh abrasion environments and are commonly found where extensive landscaping work, both with and without chainsaws is undertaken. EN 381-3
Class 2 24 metres per second (54 mph) (4724 feet per minute) Used in harsh abrasion environments and are commonly found where extensive landscaping work, both with and without chainsaws is undertaken. EN 381-3
Class 3 28 metres per second (63 mph) (5512 feet per minute) Used in harsh abrasion environments and are commonly found where extensive landscaping work, both with and without chainsaws is undertaken. EN 381-3
Specialist classifications
EH Electrical Hazard footwear is used to protect wearers from up to 18kV Electrical risks. Intended as secondary protection equipment to be used in addition to other Electrical Hazard Equipment i.e. Gloves and Grounding apparatus. Used by companies that work on or near live electrics i.e. Rail, Power Generation, Utilities and Construction. ASTM F2413-11
ESD ESD Compliant footwear is used to prevent damage to electronic components via an Electrostatic discharge. Used in electronics manufacturing processes to ensure the control of electrostatic levels. EN 61240-5-1:2007
WG Welding Boots, Certified protection against Thermal Risks and Molten Metal Splashes i.e. welding sparks. Welding and Foundry boots can be used throughout heavy engineering due to their design, protective covers and limited stitching. EN ISO 20349:2010
Ai Aluminium Splash Foundry boots. Certified protection against Thermal Risks and Molten Metal Splashes Welding and Foundry boots can be used throughout heavy engineering due to their design, protective covers and limited stitching. EN ISO 20349:2010

Additional Safety Features
A Antistatic Range 100kΩ – 1000MΩ This is antistatic protection. Safety footwear with an A rating offers electrical resistance between the foot and the ground ranging from 0.1 to 1000 MegaOhms.
AN Ankle Protection
CI Insulation against cold , product which upper has been tested for cold insulation. Standard level is -17°C. Can be certified to -40°C. Styles that have been tested and passed the CI standard offer enhanced protection in challenging, cold environments.
CR Cut Resistant Upper
E Energy Absorption of the heel region has been tested at 20 Joules (J) Absorptive shoes are, generally speaking, comfortable shoes. Safety footwear with an E rating will keep you comfortable throughout long periods of wear.
FO Outsole is resistance to Fuel Oil
HI Heat Insulation of Sole Complex. Product which upper has been tested for heat insulation resistance against a minimum of 150°C. Styles that have been tested and passed the HI standard can be used in close proximity to hot surfaces such as freshly laid tarmac.
HRO Resistance to High Heat, product outsole has been tested for heat resistance against 300°C on contact. Styles that have been tested and passed the HRO standard can be used in close proximity to hot surfaces such as freshly laid tarmac.
M Any product that offers additional metatarsal protection that achieves the 200J test is certified with M standard Commonly found in traffic management, or places where heavy objects are hand carried, such as breweries etc.
P Penetration Resistance 1100 Newtons These shoes have midsole protection against sharp objects, such as nails and other protrusions. Safety footwear with a P rating have been tested to withstand penetration forces of up to 1,100Nm using either steel inserts, aluminium inserts, or Kevlar insoles.
WR Water Resistant, product has been tested to be fully waterproof using a flex test. Not to be confused with Water Repellent, which is a classification reached by all S3 Boots. WR stands for Water Resistant which means it can be worn in outdoor environments exposed to sustained wet weather and not leak.
WRU Water Penetration Resistant Uppers. Not to be confused with Water Repellent, which is a classification reached by all S3 Boots. WR stands for Water Resistant which means it can be worn in outdoor environments exposed to sustained wet weather and not leak.
Occupational Footwear
OB Basic requirements for occupational footwear met (contains no protective toe cap).
O1 Oil resistant sole, closed and energy absorbing seat region, and antistatic. Basic requirements for occupational footwear met (contains no protective toe cap).
O2 Water penetration resistance and cleated sole. Oil resistant sole, closed and energy absorbing seat region, and antistatic. Basic requirements for occupational footwear met (contains no protective toe cap).
O4 Oil resistant sole, energy absorbing seat region, antistatic. Basic requirements for occupational footwear met (contains no protective toe cap).
O5 Penetration resistance and cleated sole. Oil resistant sole, energy absorbing seat region, antistatic. Basic requirements for occupational footwear met (contains no protective toe cap).
